Big Bend

This is what you expect Texas to be. Wide open spaces that lead to more wide open spaces. It may be desert, but it isn’t desolate. This is the Texas that you imagined watching Westerns when you were a kid. What you won’t expect is just how beautiful this rugged land can be.

The natural beauty of this part of Texas is framed by the National and State parks to be found here. Big Bend National Park, about the size of Rhode Island, sits on the border with Mexico. The Guadalupe Mountains National Park host both the State’s highest spot and one of its most beautiful, McKittrick Canyon. A one of a kind experience is swimming in the crisp clear waters of Balmorhea State Park in one of the largest man made swimming pools in the U. S. or surfing the sand dunes in Monahans Sandhills State Parks.

The communities that beckon you are just as varied. El Paso is the largest U. S. city on the Mexican border. Del Rio has the amazing Lake Amistad, a small ocean in the desert. Midland and Odessa are twin cities that thrive on the oil and gas industry. But probably one of the biggest surprises will be the international jewel of the art world, Marfa.

This land is home to Judge Roy Bean, Roy Orbison, Indian Reservations, chili cook-offs, and other ingredients that spice to life here in Texas.

So plan to enjoy some history, some heritage and some home town heroes as you explore the Big Bend Region.
